    Working Environment

    The natural products chemistry laboratory in the Food Science and Human Nutrition Department at the Citrus Research and Education Center, University of Florida is currently accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Associate. The laboratory has strong expertise in the isolation and characterization of natural products and metabolomics. The goal of our laboratory is to better understand health and disease, as well as translate this knowledge into personalized science-based nutrition. We offer a truly innovative working environment. Our center is located off the main campus, in Central Florida, less than 1 hour from Orlando and Tampa.


    Full Time Postdoctoral Associate In Plant Metabolomics And/Or Taste Modulation 

    Key responsibilities

    This position will utilize analytical instrumentation, including different chromatography setups, such as HPLC-DAD/ELSD, LC-MS/MS, LC-TOF/MS and NMR. The candidate will be expected to develop new strategies for plant metabolomics/lipidomics to study citrus related diseases and plant growth. Optimization of targeted and untargeted approaches will be necessary to achieve methodologies fitting identification and screening requirements. Additional responsibilities include researching, interpreting, and evaluating relevant literature; compiling and analysis of data; maintaining an accurate, up-to-date lab notebook to contribute to SOPs; preparing and editing manuscripts for publication, and collaborating with other lab staff and graduate students.

    Education and Experience

    The motivated candidates should hold a recent PhD in chemistry, biochemistry, analytical chemistry, plant science or metabolomics. She/he should be keen on analytical development and demonstrate hands‐on experience with advanced instrumentation (liquid chromatography, hyphenated systems). Experience with the plant sciences, preparative‐scale systems, mass spectrometry and NMR is a merit. Fluency in spoken and written English, and excellent communication skills are expected. The candidate should also enjoy collaborating with a group of researchers on the different aspects of the same basic research question.


    Ph.D. Students

    A Bachelor's degree or solid training in analytical chemistry, biochemistry or other related fields is required. Preference will be given to the candidates already with a master's degree. Previous experience on handling animals, cell culture, gas or liquid chromatography, metabolomics, proteomics, mass spectrometry will be a plus.

    Master Students

    Self-supported candidates who want to pursue a master degree will be also considered, and partial support might be available depending on fundings. Please contact the PI to discuss the details.

    Undergraduate Students

    Undergraduate students are welcome to conduct either independent research projects or earn credit hours for selected department courses.

    Visiting Students / Scholars

    The self-supported individuals are encouraged to join and conduct research toward publications on high quality peer-reviewed journals. Partial financial support may be available. Please contact the PI for further details. 

    OPS Position

    OPS appointment in Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition Food Chemistry Lab at CREC.  Responsibilities include UF Market orders, outside vendor orders, obtain quotes and keep track of money spent and orders received in Excel account spreadsheets.  Duties also include completion of travel paperwork, purchase reimbursements and obtaining proper signatures using DocuSign. This position will perform order follow up (call vendors on backorders, missing items, returns), call tech support, inventory of chemicals (SDS sheet, CAS #), samples (location), supplies (needs) as well as complete shipping/receiving pickups, date and stock supplies, break down boxes disposal.  Additional duties include analytical standard inventory organization, autoclave cell room waste, refill distilled deionized water jugs, hazardous waste paperwork and disposal, flow and enforce lab safety rules, general lab organization, 10% other may include washing and juicing fruit, running to Walmart, putting away dishes, checking to see if we need soap, paper towels, sharpies, laser paper other supplies.
